The Mountain Province or The Cordilleras is one of the coldest and most scenic places in the Philippines. Even colder, higher and scenic than the popular Baguio. It is located in the northern mountainous region of the Philippines. 4 to 6 hours drive from Baguio via the Halsema Highway depending on how fast you go. For those who love to drive, this place should be on your list. Just be sure your vehicle is on optimum condition. Your vehicle’s brakes and your braking techniques will be put to a test. The zigzagging roads can be treacherous in this region and there is a a lot of long ascent driving with sharp curves on the way of to Mount Data – Bauko – Sabangan portion of the highway. You also get to pass the highest point of the country’s highway system at more than 2600 meters above sea level.
This shot was taken 2600 meters above sea level in April 2010. Temperature was around 12 degrees during the day and could drop down to 4 degrees at night during summer. Folks say temperature could go below zero during the months of December to February. During these months, frosts can be seen early in the morning. Fog is pretty normal up there even during mid-day.
Sagada
One of the most beautiful places in the country, Sagada, is one of the municipalities of Mountain Province. It boasts of a very cool sunny climate with surrounding beautiful sceneries and relaxed living.
